Dive Tech

Remember the movie “Back to the Future”?  Marty cruised back in time using Doc Brown’s “Flux-Capacitor!”  After experiencing the past, he had a better understanding of his future.

In a way, Dive Tech has gone Back to the Future!  Their Future!  Back to where it all began years ago at Cobalt Coast Resort.

Recently we caught up with Joanna Mikutowicz, Owner and Manager of Dive Tech, and asked her about their exciting return to Cobalt Coast.

“The best part is the additional room, which allows us to have everything in the same space: tanks, compressor, training center, pool, restaurant, office, dive shop, dock, and so on.  When I arrived at Dive Tech in 2012, we were based at Cobalt Coast.  So this move is like going home,” Jo said.

Jo, or “Pinky Jo” as her friends call her, became Open Water certified on her 15th birthday in 1997 at Bob Soto’s in Grand Cayman, and she knew she wanted to grow up and become a Scuba Diving Instructor in Grand Cayman.  After becoming a PADI Course Director and Director of Training at Ocean Concepts in Hawaii, she moved to Grand Cayman and joined Dive Tech in 2012.  There she advanced to become boat captain, MKVI rebreather diver, SSI Free Diving Instructor, and now Owner and Manager.

So take a ride in the Dive Tech “Delorian” and blast back to the future at Cobalt Coast.  Close the door.  Fire up the engines.  And cruise ahead to 88 miles an hour…

The Dive Tech move to Cobalt Coast has recently been completed.  And the facility is quickly taking shape.  The Dive Shop looks great, bright, clean, and the new floor has…you guessed it, pink flecks in it!  Cobalt Coast Resort is located at 18-A Sea Fan Drive KY 1-1206 in West Bay.

Jo added, “We’ll continue to have our dive shop at Light House Point too, but our main base of operations is now at Cobalt Coast.”  So Dive Tech now has two great locations.

And two outstanding shore dive sites!  In addition to their shore dive site at Northwest Point with the famous Guardian of the Reef statue, they now have the beautiful shore dive site at Cobalt Coast.  And it’s a great site, where the north waters of Grand Cayman merge with the west waters. It has a wonderful mini wall that’s teaming with life.  Oh, it will be great to dive that site again.

The new restaurant there is called NOVA, a Mediterranean-Japanese Fusion Restaurant located right inside Cobalt Coast with delicious food and wonderful views of the sea.

VIVO is the restaurant at their Norwest Point location, which offers casual oceanside dining with a range of seafood, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.  Either one is a great place to enjoy lunch after your morning dives.

So let’s go Back to the Future with Dive Tech.  But the journey isn’t over, it’s only just beginning.  Why?  Because of all the wonderful, exciting opportunities 2023 and beyond has to offer.

For starters, Dive Tech was founded in 1994, which means they will celebrate their 30-year anniversary next year.  That’s a big deal.  And Jo says, “oh, we’ll definitely be celebrating it.”
