The Cayman Islands are actually three Caribbean islands, the largest is Grand Cayman. The two smaller islands, known affectionately as the Sister Islands, are Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. The Sister Islands are separated by little more the five miles of Caribbean Sea and are about 70 miles northeast of Grand Cayman. Their combined land mass is about 25 square miles with a total population somewhere around 2,000, the vast majority of which is made up of people living on the Brac. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman have become world famous for their spectacular wall diving, endemic wildlife, and refined sense of relaxed Caribbean life.
Scuba Diving in the Sister Islands couldn’t be easier. There is something for every level of diver – shallow reefs, breathtaking walls and even some incredible wrecks.
The islands offer lots of topside opportunities as well. If you like to fish then try the challenge of bonefishing in the flats or charter a boat for deep sea fishing off the walls. In Cayman Brac you can hike through some of the islands historic trails or spelunk one of the many caves that at one time provided shelter to the inhabitants during inclement weather. In Little Cayman, visit the Booby Pond Preserve to catch a glimpse of the Red Footed Booby and Magnificent Frigates or keep a watchful eye out for the Sister Islands Rock Iguana who always have the right of way. An Island Tour is a great way to experience all of the Islands’ natural beauty.
